Cross Country Training - Town Park, Saturday 9:00am

Cross CountryThere will be a Cross Country training on Saturdays over winter at 9:00 am. The following dates have been confirmed

  1. 5th October
  2. 12th October
  3. 19th October

The training will be based at the Runcorn Town Park Cross Country course, meet at the Ski centre (WA7 6PT) for 9:00am.

The format much is the same as previous years in that we will start with a warm up lap followed by some interval sessions on three sections of the course concluding with a warm down. For those who have time ski centre should be open for a coffee afterwards.

Best to train in appropriate footwear, spikes if you have them or trail type trainers otherwise any trainer that you don‘t mind getting wet and muddy.

Club Incentives Initiative Update

The incentives scheme that allows club members to 'win' pieces of club kit or vouchers depending on participation has been updated now that all cross country dates are known.

The only change is for cross country in that only the first five races are now eligible for the scheme since the last race full too close to presentation night to include it, and the amount of participation required has been reduced. The schemes are outlined in the table below. The kit will be presented at the club presentation evening next February.

Note: Helping out with our cross country event in January counts as one qualifying event.

Lymm Trail 5K and 10K, 30th June

Lymm 5/10K

The second Lymm Trail 5K and 10K will take place on the 30th June.

Lymm Festival's very own 5km trail race will take place for the second year on the 30th June. New for this year is a 10km trail race, and a childrens' fun run. These friendly off-road events welcome people of all abilities and are organised by Lymm Runners under UK Athletics/Trail Running Association rules (permit TRA111-13).

All the events are on Sunday 30th June 2013 at Lymm High School playing fields, and the course is all off road on tracks and paths around Helsdale and Spud Woods. The fun starts at 10.30am with the childrens' fun run, followed by the 5km and 10km races. There are prizes, and a great goody bag for all entrants.

An Introduction to Off Road Running

Spectrum Striders with Cheshire Network are hosting another Introduction to Off-Road Running session at Delamere Forest on Bank Holiday Monday 27th May 2013. This is open to all Cheshire club runners.

It will be FREE and will run from 10am to 4.30pm. You will learn about Fell and Off-Road Running: how to run up and down steep hills; how to navigate and learn a new interval technique to improve your stamina.

This is your chance to try off-road running if you are a novice - or to hone your skills if you are more experienced. The lead coach is Jackie Newton, a level 3 Endurance Coach supported by Bashir Hussain a level 4 Endurance Coach and mountain running specialist, and Tom Fellbaum, a GB International Orienteer.

Tea and coffee will be provided free, but please bring your own lunch. The course is based from "The Classroom" behind Delamere Forest Visitors Centre, Linmere, CW8 2JD.

North Cheshire 5k Grand Prix

The North Cheshire 5k Grand Prix is a series of five 5k races organised by Spectrum Striders RC and Altrincham & District AC. The races are:

The races can be entered individually or all-in-one. See Spectrun Striderswebsite for more details. Note: The deadline for entering the whole series is the 18th May, it has to be via post and there will probably be no entry on the day at Bowdon or Dunham Massey, so don't delay!.

AGM Wednesday 13th March

The AGM was concluded successfully on Wednesday 13th March, and a new championship schedule was announced, the first race is Whitley 10K in April. See the Championshippage for all the details.

Membership renewal is due from April 1st. The AGM approved maintaining the current subscription level and also a deal on subscription over two or three years. Subscription rates are:

Spring 2013: Thursday Night Training

Victoria Park track is to close for refurbishment for several months. Hence from the 7th March, we will move to the new Thursday temporary venue of Witherwin Ave for Hill training (near Broomfields Leisure Centre). Meet 7pm at Broomfields Leisure Centre for a short jog upto to Witherwin Ave. Here is the hill training informationfor next week.


Spring 2013: North West 5K Series

Knowsley Harriers AC from the first Saturday of next month will be hosting a 5k Grand Prix series, there will be a race on the first Saturday of each month at 10am in Halewood. There is no cost for involvement and all runners taking part will count towards the clubs team score. A flyer can be downloaded here from their site.


8 February: Presentation Evening

The Presentation Evening was held at the Rams Head in Grappenhall. All the trophies and awards for the past year were presented after a meal. See the Presentation Evening page for more information.
