WRR 10k:
This is scheduled for Thursday 19th June 2008, starting at the usual time of 7.30pm in Woolston Linear Park, subject to clearance from the Council, Rangers and England Athletics. Our sponsors will again be Up & Running, based in the Triangle, Manchester. Entry forms can be found by emailing the website link opposite or by going to John Schofield’s website.
There will be a selected number of goody bags, donated by our sponsors and prizes for all.
Would all those club members willing to help out please let me know ASAP as we need as many as possible on the night as without marshals we can’t have the race. This is the club’s main event as always receives positive comments, many about the marshals.
WRR website:
The website has now been reinstated after the host taking it down and not letting us know it was due for renewal! Please accept my apologies for this, especially if you were after a 10k entry form.
WRR Club Championship 2008:
The year’s events are available to view by clicking the link on the left. The next one is the Hollins Green 5k on the 31st May.
Annual Subs:
This year’s subs were due from the start of April. The membership form can be found by clicking on the link on the left.
Beginner Training:
We have coming up in the next few weeks two new Club initiatives; one organised by Sean is based around the Tuesday ‘Hill Session’, with the focus on preparation for the Birchwood 10k in August.
The other will be organised by Alison, who along with Carol, will be offering a new session again on a Tuesday night. This will be aimed at beginners / runners new to the Club who may not yet be ready for the normal Club runs, as a more structured way of introducing them to what we do.
Summer Runs:
This summer we will be running a different route each month starting at the beginning of each month. The club have a few different routes of varying lengths with different cut off points for shorter runs. We will change the Tuesday route at the start of each month. The route we are doing at the moment takes us through Grappenhall, Dingle woods into Appleton.
Long Run Weekend (weekend of 4th - 6th July):
This event looks in danger of folding this year due to a few recent drop outs. Last year we had an excellent weekend away in some lovely scenery. It would be a real shame for all the hard work already put in organising the event if this was the case. We need 2 or 3 more to make it probably viable but what we don’t need is more drop outs. So there is an urgent request to all those already going to contact Alan Wright ASAP and let him know you are still available.
Also if anyone going can volunteer to take their car as it has become too costly to hire the van now due to the drop outs. Again you need to let Alan know ASAP.
And Finally…Congratulations:
Shirley Anderson set a new women’s club record for the marathon in a time of 3:27:56 at the London Marathon. She breaks the previous record of 3:30:28 set by Denise Gregg again at London in 1999, and is the first Club Record to be set since 2002.
